"Let us mark this well. There is nothing which shows our ignorance so much as our impatience under trouble. We forget that every trial is a message from God and intended to do us good in the end. Trials are intended to make us think, to wean us from this world, to send us to the Bible, to drive us to our knees. Health is a good thing. But, sickness is far better, if it leads us to God. Prosperity is a great mercy. But, adversity is a greater one, if it brings us to Christ." -- J.C. Ryle

"The great test of your soul's health is, What think you of Christ? Is He to you 'fairer than the children of men' -- 'the chief among ten thousand' -- the 'altogether lovely?'...I will judge of your piety by this barometer: does Christ stand high or low with you? If you have thought little of Christ, if you have been content to live without His presence, if you have cared little for His honour, if you have been neglectful of His laws, then I know that your soul is sick -- God grant that it may not be sick unto death! But, if the first thought of your spirit has been, how can I honour Jesus? If the daily desire of your soul has been, 'O that I knew where I might find Him!' I tell you that you may have a thousand infirmities, and even scarcely know whether you are a child of God at all, and yet I am persuaded, beyond a doubt, that you are safe, since Jesus is great in your esteem." -- C.H. Spurgeon

    Quotation from a Jen Wilkin talk ( https://youtu.be/YxqH_QHnjaM?si=UgrWmbPsz7twOOee ):

"Exodus 20:3 says, 'You shall have no other gods before me.' It's the first of the ten commandments. The ten commandments could have started just about anywhere; but, naturally, they start with this most important and most foundational statement that we would have no other god before God. That we would, or as in a more literal translation, this says, 'before My face.' That you would not have any other gods in My presence, and it's this pivotal message for the nation of Israel at the time that it is given because there they are, stuck between Egypt and Canaan. So, there are the gods of Egypt that will not be the gods they bring before Yahweh, and then there are the gods of Canaan where they're headed that will not be the gods that they will bring before Yahweh. And, Moses and God are wanting to prepare the people to say this. You're not going to take with you what you came from, and you're not going to take in where you're headed. That is a message that all people of all times need. And, why is it something to meditate on at a conference that is talking about the end times? Because the beautiful thing about all of the ten commandments, but this most foundational one in particular, is that in the new Jerusalem, in the new heavens and the new earth, we will finally and freely have no other gods before this God. Like when you read the account in Revelation and it talks about the sun, moon, and the stars falling from the heavens, these are the principal Egyptian deities. These are the principal deities of Canaan, the things that have been held in honor, the created things that have been held in honor. [These things] that have separated the people of God from God Himself will finally have fallen to the wayside, and we will worship God as we were created to worship God in Eden."

She goes on from there, and I'm still listening. Just thought I'd share that part, for I liked it so well.
